January Newsletter

201901First, I want to thank everyone for our marvelous Christmas! It was such an inspiring season and now, we are in the middle of reconnecting with Christ through our Celtic heritage. Our Intern - Renee Goodwin is bringing her seminary studies of Celtic Spirituality to share with us in our worship series, Bless to Me. Even if you don't have an Irish bone in your body, I think this fresh look at our life in Christ will inspire you in these cold winter months.
Next, I want to recognize and thank everyone who has helped with all the recent funerals. The Disciples Women have been preparing Family Dinners once, sometimes twice, a week. This weekend is our first break since Christmas. Not just FCCP, but the entire Parsons community has said good-bye to many long time friends. The grief has been palpable. Please take time to share fond memories with friends and family as we prepare for spring's hope of new life.
And now, to all of you, thanks! What a wonderful place to be in ministry. I am blessed to be able to serve alongside you in your ministries here at First Christian. Thank you for all you are and do! Laurie

The season of thanks-giving and we have so much to be thankful for at 1st Christian. What a great community of caring, loving Christians. There are all kinds of ways to give your time and talents during this time of year. One is to help with decking the halls of the church. It is fun to decorate our own houses, but it is a wonderful feeling to be a part of decorating God’s house for the coming Messiah. The Christmas season is almost upon us! So save the date for Sunday, Nov. 25th. We will decorate and then fellowship together over a light lunch.

I can hardly wait to sing the old favorites and maybe a new one or two. Our worship series for the season is Calm and Bright, a celebration of the 200th birthday of the cherished Silent Night. I think you are going to love it. Last year it was feathers, this year stars will abound! I am excited too, because the Sanctuary in all its festive glory is simply gorgeous; a gift in itself for the Christ-child.

Then, when all the presents have been unwrapped and the food in the refrigerator is all leftovers, we will be having our December 3oth service in the Fellowship Hall. Bring the goodies you have too much of and we will enjoy a casual worship service in the Fellowship Hall.

See you at the Table! Laurie
