Fore Thoughts June 2016

Golden Adventurers “On the Go – Again!”

On Friday June 3rd, we will travel to Bella Vista, Arkansas to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The Museum welcomes all to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of nature. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate our heritage and artistic possibilities.

The museum is free but admission to “The Open Road” Exhibit is $10. We will leave approximately 8 am. Please plan on eating at least one meal out. There is a restaurant (closes at 2:30 pm) on site as well as a coffee shop with sandwiches, chips, desserts and drinks on site.

Picasso! Grace Kelly! George Washington! Andy Warhol! And Rosie the Riveter! These are just a very few of the special art pieces housed by the Crystal Bridges Art Museum. With some pieces on loan from the George Eastman Museum and other locations, there is no end to the diversity of the art displayed. Look for the TV man! Marble Statues! And yes, there is even a quilt! Oh, beware the two story spider!

“The Open Road” exhibit is worth the time! The price of this exhibit is separate and only costs $10. Photos of the past come alive along Route 66, THE destination of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. There is also a short film montage in the theater that really explores the film-making ideas of the time. Read the newsletter here.

New church movement experiencing a Second Wind

Indianapolis, March 28, 2016 — The Disciples new church movement is experiencing a Second Wind. With courageous leaders at the helm and the wind of the Holy Spirit breathing vitality into the movement, Disciples are on course to start 1,000 new churches by 2020.

Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation invites you to join the new church fleet by supporting the 2016 Pentecost Offering, which will be celebrated in Disciples of Christ churches May 15 and May 22.

Since the creation of the 2020 Vision, Disciples have planted 934 churches in the United States and Canada, sharing the gospel with more than 61,000 individuals who may not have had a relationship with Christ. According to Gilberto Collazo, president of Hope Partnership, “A Second Wind,” which is the theme for this year’s Pentecost Offering, is energizing the new church movement, making it a vital force for sharing God’s Word. “The new church movement is very much on course and gaining momentum,” he says. “Our new church planters are more determined than ever to share the gospel and win souls for Christ.”

Each year one half of the Pentecost Offering is designated to the Region or Area in which the offering is taken, while the other half is used by Hope Partnership to support the recruitment, assessment, training and coaching of new church leaders.

Once again, Hope Partnership invites Disciples congregations to view the 2016 Pentecost Offering video created by the award-winning production company, the SALT Project. This two-minute video offers a creative style in highlighting the Pentecost Offering theme.
