July 2017 Newsletter

July NewsletterBRING A FRIEND SUNDAY July 16th

Make plans now to join us on Sunday, July 16th.

This will be the first Sunday with our new pastor, Rev. Laurie Ann Lewis. There will be a reception following worship to give everyone a chance to meet Pastor Laurie and give her a warm welcome to our church and community. This is also a great Sunday to attend worship if you haven't been here in a while. Our new pastor will have new ideas and new ways to share God's word. Come be a part of the changes at FCC!

We are also designating Sunday, July 16th as "bring a friend" Sunday. In a recent Gallup survey 82% of people who don't attend church say they would attend if invited by a friend, yet only 2% of Christians ever invite someone to church. Your friends may know what church you attend, but may still be waiting for an invitation from you to join us.

Here are three tips to help you:
1. Think of three friends who don't attend church.
2. Spend a minute each day to pray for each of those three friends by name.
3. Pray that God give you the opportunity to invite them to church with you.

Churches grow when members bring their friends - so be a friend and invite a friend!

June 2017 Newsletter - Rev. Laurie Lewis to be new Senior Pastor -

After a process that took over a year, the Pastoral Search Committee selected Rev. Laurie Lewis to recommend to the congregation to be called as Senior Pastor of First Christian Church. A reception was held on Friday, May 12, for members, staff, and community to meet Laurie. A congregational meeting was held Sunday, May 14, for the congregation to vote on calling Laurie. There were 55 ballots marked and returned with the congregation voting overwhelmingly to call Laurie with 54 voting "yes" and one voting "no".

Laurie is a graduate of Texas Christian University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in radio, television, and film. She says that although always knowing she was called to ministry, she tried to deny the call when choosing a lifelong vocation, however eventually discovered that God never gives up. She entered Brite Divinity School where she received her Master of Divinity and entered full-time ministry. She says, "I have since accepted my call with great joy. I absolutely love what I do and I think that is reflected in the energy I bring to worship and congregational life."

Laurie has served as interim minister of South Broadway Christian Church in Denver, CO since January 2016. Prior to that call she served as Senior Pastor of Monte Vista Christian Church, Albuquerque, NM for almost 11 years.

Laurie's first Sunday with us will be July 16. Read More.
