Again, a huge thank you to everyone who had a part in making our Holy Week so wonderful - it took so many people to make it all happen. It would be impossible to name each and every one of you. Please know how grateful I am for each of you.
+Youth group has one more cook-out at our picnic shelter on Wednesday, May 8th. We have had a wonderful year and it is a joy to be sharing this ministry with 1st Presbyterian and 1st Baptist. School is about to be out for summer and we are looking forward to next fall when we get to meet again. Thanks to Chris Robbins, Steve Fincher, and our superb chef: Jewell Reed.
+The worship team did a terrific job with our series Reconnecting with an Unhurried God during Lent. I especially loved the Prayer Chair that Mary Koogle painting for our Sanctuary. Now, we are celebrating The Cup of Freedom we have been given through the resurrection. And thanks to all our amazingly creative bulletin board folks who keep them seasonally up to date - they always look so nice.
+ Good things are happening in the Region. There are still registration slots available for the Kansas Leadership Center. You can be trained in how to promote adaptive change for only $25. The Region has a scholarship grant from KLC for 40 students and there are still some spaces available. Hotel rooms and meals are covered by a grant from the Kansas Bible Chair. This is an unbelievable opportunity to get world class training almost free. Check out the Region's website at Kansasdisciples.org. or ask me about it.
+An upcoming Regional event is the Mission Fest many of us attended last year. This year it is called Connect and Equip. Mark your calendar - it will be on Saturday, August 10, 9:30 to 3:30. Good food, lots of good folks from other Kansas churches; special music, and inspiring preaching from around the Region.
+ At the General Church level is this summer's General Assembly to be held July 20 - 24 in Des Moines, Iowa. We have information about it in the church office, or you can check it out at disciples.org
It is such a privilege to be in ministry alongside you. What a gifted and talented congregation FCCP is! See you at the Table this Sunday!
A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR
*Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
*Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone might ask you to do something REALLY BIG!
*Don't listen to critics. Listen to God.
*Build on high ground.
*Don't forget we're all in the same boat.
*Stay below deck during the storm.
*Remember the ark was built by amateurs with God's guidance, and the Titanic was built by professionals with human egos.
*No matter how bleak it looks, there's always a rainbow on the other side.
*Don't miss the boat!
See you at the Table! Laurie
